Introduction

This book is a translation of the original German 8th edition Morbus Menière by Helmut Schaaf published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2017.The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. The author

Helmut Schaaf, MD, worked as a specialist in anesthesiology before he himself became ill with Ménière’s disease. He therefore had to give up his original occupation. Since 1994 he is a senior physician in a neurotological specialized clinic in Bad Arolsen, now at the “Tinnitus Clinic Dr. Hesse” (Hessen/Germany). He has written several books and scientific articles on the topics of Ménière’s disease, vertigo, tinnitus and hyperacusis.
