Preface

Cardiac Electrophysiology is a rapidly and constantly evolving field. When we created The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Handbook, our goal was to provide a thorough yet concise reference for a range of clinicans and learners. Our goal was to create a succinct resource that was equally valuable to the cardiology fellow on their EP rotation, or an EP fellow or technologist working in the EP lab. The book would act as a clinical resource, and a guide for self-directed learning.

In the years since the publication of The Handbook’s first edition, the field of EP has continued to develop, with new techniques and technologies entering the clinical realm. The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Handbook, Second Edition represents an enhancement of the first edition, with expanded sections on: intracardiac echocardiography, including an annotated atlas of common views; atrial fibrillation ablation, with a focus on techniques adjunctive to pulmonary vein isolation such as linear ablation, posterior wall isolation, scar homogenization, and SVC/LAA isolation; His bundle pacing; adjunctive techniques for CRT, including multisite pacing, multipoint pacing, and LV endocardial pacing; and left atrial appendage occlusion. Lastly, the text has undergone significant revision and expansion based on new knowledge and evidence published since the first edition of the Handbook.
