The book has been written as a primer on clinical risk management for mental health professionals. There is no similar book available and the literature which is available tends to be limited to learned articles in journals. The approach to clinical risk management is often driven by anxiety and it is intended that a basic introductory primer will alleviate some of this concern. The book covers an introduction to the concept of risk, where it sits within a mental health setting and explores in some detail the most common risks of suicide, violence and self harm. Towards the end of the book, there is more focus on some slightly more complicated components of clinical risk management.
